Mucking Around in Boats III
Going to call this one Operation Soggy Lamprey (from the suggested names, I didn't think of it). This is definately a spectator sport, so come along to point and laugh and eat chicken sandwiches even if you're not planning on getting wet. See also here and here. After careful consideration and due weight being given to boaties who're buggering off after the 1st, the Boat Battle and Picnic for this year will be on the 1st of January. I'm going to go out on a limb and make the time 3pm-4pm, to give those of you who didn't vote for the 1st more time to recover from your hangovers. If you previously voted for 2pm on the 1st, and you will now not be able to make it because of flight times or something, scream out now before I make a booking, and I'll probably put it back. I'm going to phone in a group booking on or about 4pm on the 29th. You can still join in the boating after that, but you will need to make your own booking. If you want to be in the group booking, leave a name in the comments (a real name would be nice if I'm unlikely to recognize who the handle belongs to). If we get enough, there may be a discount from the basic $10/hr. One more thing, picnic-ers should buy food a day or so beforehand, as the first is a Stat, and supermarkets will be closed. Also, if you haven't got a watergun or umbrella, you can often get good waterguns from K-Mart in the Riccarton Mall (failing that, a sipper bottle) and umbrellas from a $2 shop. |

Mucking Around in Boats II Please pass this link around on Facebook etc, so people get to see it.
OK, so here's the story. I want to organise another one of these Boat Battle/Picnic affairs, they're always popular. If you haven't done this before, what happens is that we go down to the Antigua Boatsheds and some of us hire canoes for an hour, that costs $10 per head. Those of us in the boats take our waterguns and umbrellas (the umbrellas are important), divide into two "fleets" and shoot water at each other on the Avon near the bandstand, periodically returning to our "respawn boays" after we get shot up, while everyone else sits on the bank and has a picnic. Afterwards we join them. Here's some pictures.
I really want to do this during the Stats, so that people who're not taking a holiday (there are a few) can turn up. I also want to do this after New Year so as to avoid Big Gaming Week, which might otherwise occupy many boaties. That's the 1st through 4th of January. If there are enough of you who're going to yell and wave your hands for say the 31st, then try and convince me in the comments.
Another couple of factors; the boatsheds and river are less busy in the morning (if we going in the afternoon we'll need firm bookings, and stragglers may miss out), KAOS Agents are not going to get out of bed with a hangover to go boating, and I have to give greater weight to reliable boaties over people who consistently don't turn up (pikers!) or only want to watch (if there is nothing to watch, it was a bit of a waste of time).
So, give me feedback.

Messing Around in Boats
Well, it's that time of year again. The time where we have a picnic and boat-battle on the Avon. Here are some pictures if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://pics.livejournal.com/marsden_online/gallery/0017614hSo, we've done this a couple of times now, but it's popular, and John says that makes it a tradition so we *have* to do it. I'm going to go in and get some prices and times, but what I'm looking for here is expressions of interest. I thinking lunchtime +/- 2 hours between the 2nd and 4th of January inclusive. Let me know what you think. |
